Holy Family N.S. held our proclamation Day on 15th of March 2016. Below are the highlights from the day.

THE PROVISIONAL GOVERNMENT
OF THE
IRISH REPUBLIC
TO THE PEOPLE OF IRELAND
Irishmen, Irishwomen,
children and all those who are proud to call Ireland home: As we the pupils and
teachers at Holy Family N.S., Rathmore remember the centenary of the events of
1916, we celebrate our past, reflect on our present and look to the future with
hope and optimism. We acknowledge with gratitude the sacrifices made by all
generations who fought for Irish freedom and we echo their aspirations for an
equal and just society.
Equality and justice
for all Irish citizens is as relevant today as it was 100 years ago. In a
modern, multicultural society we declare the right of all citizens to equality
of opportunity, religious freedom and decent living standards. As a people we
pledge to protect the rights of all, especially the most vulnerable.
Within a caring
society, we as a nation aspire to the following: The right to a comfortable
family home in a safe and secure community; access to quality health care where
the dignity of the individual is paramount; where people of all abilities are
provided with the opportunity to achieve their potential.
Ireland is a welcoming
country. We are renowned for our hospitality, communication skills, generosity
and strong cultural traditions which have evolved over many generations. Tá
saibhreas i gcultúr na tíre agus ba chóir ár dteanga a labhairt agus na
traidisiúin dúchais a chothú.
Protection of the
global environment is the responsibility of all. We as a nation commit to work
towards developing sustainable energies so that future generations may inherit
this land of wonderful natural beauty and resources.
Communities are the
cornerstone of our society. The tradition of the ‘Meitheal’ has been an
intrinsic aspect of Irish life. We commend all volunteers and voluntary organisations
who serve to maintain the fabric of a caring society. “Ní neart go cur le
chéile”. We acknowledge those both lay and religious who have taken this spirit
of caring and volunteerism beyond our shores.
Our hope is that future generations will continue to embrace this
generosity of spirit and readily respond to others in times of crisis.
In an age of
globalisation, we as a nation are proud of the role we play as a progressive
member of the European Union and the wider world. We value our democracy and
the peace we have achieved on this island and we commend the work of our
defence forces who endeavour to maintain and achieve peace in areas of
conflict.
We remember the many
generations of Irish citizens who have made their home in countries around the
world and have made such positive contributions in their adopted homelands. In
an age of communication, we will strive to forge ever closer links with the
Irish diaspora and ensure them of a ‘Céad Míle Fáilte’ at all times.
Therefore, as we
commemorate the centenary of “The 1916 Rising” we aim to build on the strengths
of the past and echo the aspirations of the 1916 proclamation to pursue the
happiness and prosperity of the whole nation and cherish all citizens equally.

Flag For School Initiative
To commemorate the centenary of the 1916 Rising and to celebrate 100 years since the Proclamation of the Irish Republic, the Government has tasked Óglaigh na hÉireann with delivering a National Flag to every Primary School in the country.
This is a key part of the Ireland 2016 commemorative programme and will see members of Óglaigh na hÉireann, in uniform, visiting schoolchildren, teachers and parents in over 3,200 schools across the Republic.
Each school will be visited by a team, led by an Officer or senior NCO, who will formally present the National Flag to the School in a special ceremony. Our personnel will teach the schoolchildren about how the National Flag should be cared for and the protocol that surrounds this vibrant symbol of our nation.
