24th April 2020

Dear Parents,

I hope you and your children are safe and well. Hopefully you are finding seesaw
beneficial at home at this time. If you do not have a suitable device at home or are
having any difficulty accessing the app please contact us. We can arrange an
alternative method of sharing the activities with anyone experiencing difficulty for any
reason. Please message us through the app or contact the school mobile.

Thank you to all who have downloaded the family app as it will make communication
between parents and teachers more convenient. You will have received a text message
with a link on Wednesday 22 nd to set up the app and if you have yet not done so we would
encourage you to sign up next week.

When school eventually resumes in May or June or when we are advised to open by the
Department, the teachers will be helping your children pick up from where we left off on
March 12th. The children will not have to repeat a class or be at a disadvantage. This is a
worldwide issue and the children will be fine.

We are hearing lots of positive stories about children gardening and cooking with their
parents and enjoying some quality family time together.

I hope you have a lovely weekend and enjoy some sunshine and the teachers will be in
touch again Monday.

Stay Safe
Paul Horan

Dear Parents,

Thank you very much for your patience and understanding as we all embrace this new and different approach to education. We are all looking forward to returning to school but in the meantime our aim is to make our system as practical and user friendly as possible.

Though face to face contact cannot be replaced, the very early indications are that Seesaw is helping to bridge the gap somewhat. As we attempt to find the correct balance of work we may make certain adjustments to our methods of assigning and receiving work. As you can appreciate, different approaches are better suited to each class level. There has been some wonderful work uploaded already and well done to the students on their enthusiastic start.

Every assignment issued is optional and every family’s circumstances differ so please remember the health and well-being of the school community is the number one priority. We only expect pupils to try their best. Parents can decide if they are comfortable with the level of the child’s engagement and adjust it accordingly. Teachers will be allocating time to creating and correcting activities. In doing so, they may prioritise the assignments they respond to but will see everything you submit.

To enhance the privacy and quality of our Parent – Teacher communication, the teachers will invite you to join the family link app today, Wednesday 22nd April. You will receive a text message with a link to access this. You will then be able to privately message the teacher who will respond as soon as possible within school hours.

If for any reason your child has not been able to engage with the Seesaw app please contact me on the school mobile or email.

Kind Regards
Paul Horan

6th  April, 2020

Dear Parents,
You will shortly receive your child’s unique code for the Seesaw learning app. Please keep this code safe as it is your password. Please follow the instructions below to download the App by Wednesday, April 8th. We have also put a parental consent letter for the Seesaw app on the school blog - You can submit this online or print it and return it to the school as soon as possible.
Once downloaded, you will receive a welcome message to you on Wednesday 8th April. Seesaw will be in operation from Monday, April 20th. The teachers are available for support on this app between 9.10am-2:50pm. Children have the opportunity to take photos of their work and upload them to the app so teachers can see how they are progressing. Work will be posted on Monday and Wednesday mornings. Where possible, answers will be posted to allow children self correct. This is a communication tool and is recommended for use throughout school closures.
We are all looking forward to a return to school and in the meantime, the work assigned to support the children during these unprecedented times will help guide your child’s learning. Again, please do not worry about what you can or cannot get done and we understand all homes are experiencing different circumstances.  Our main concern is for the health and wellbeing of our school community.
Should you be unable to download the app or experience any difficulties please do not hesitate to contact me.
Kind Regards,
Paul Horan.

Dear Parents:
For the duration of the school closure our classes will be using Seesaw
(http://seesaw.me), a secure online journal where students can document
and reflect on what they are learning in class.
Your child will be able to add the things we work on (including photos, videos,
worksheets, drawings and voice recordings) to their Seesaw journal and we can
share them privately with you and other family members to view and
comment on throughout the school year.

In order for your child to use Seesaw, the app needs your child’s name in order to be
able to associate work like their photos, videos or voice recordings with their account.
Seesaw only uses this information to provide the service and doesn’t advertise
in Seesaw, create profiles of students, or share or sell your child’s personal
information or journal content. You can read more about their strong privacy
promises here: https://web.seesaw.me/privacy.

Under an EU law called the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR),
in order for your child to use Seesaw, the school must get your consent.

I hope that your child will enjoy using Seesaw to document and share their
learning this year. Please sign below and return this permission slip so that your
child can use Seesaw.
Yours Sincerely,
Paul Horan

Downloadable consent letter on right hand side of blog under 'Distance Learning'.

Dear Parents,

I hope the assigned work has been a help in these unusual circumstances. If the children have completed these there are also a variety of activities on the school blog. If they have not yet completed the work it would be beneficial to do so however don't stress about getting any particular task completed. We have decided as a staff to use the Seesaw app for supporting distance learning and assigning work after the Easter break. Instructions on how to download the app and set up your child will be posted on the blog in the coming days and your unique code for each child will follow by text. We hope you have a happy and safe Easter break. If you have any queries please do not hesitate to contact me.

Kind regards,
PH
