Christmas Annuals

It is that time of year again.  The Folens Christmas annuals -   €2.50 each  and  Educate.ie annuals -  €2 each  are available to order in the school. 
Closing date for orders for Educate.ie annuals is this Friday Nov. 9th.   Closing date for Folens annuals is Fri. Nov. 23rd.  Children can order these if they so wish – no compulsion. 

Cumann na mBunscol Football
Well done to the Cumann na mBunscol team who won the county Final in Austin Stack Park on Wed. 24th October.  They now progress to play Duagh N.S. on this Friday @ 12.15pm in Castleisland GAA pitch.  Your support would be warmly welcomed.  The children will travel by bus and the cost is €6.  We wish them the best of luck.

Team Hope
The Team Hope 2018 Christmas Shoebox Appeal is underway.  The children have brought some beautifully decorated boxes to school which will bring much joy to many less fortunate children this Christmas. Team Hope deliver the shoeboxes to children in Eastern Europe and Africa.  The closing date for receipt of shoeboxes has been extended to next Wed. 14th November.    They must be dropped to Killarney on Wednesday – anyone with a van who would be available to transport them, please contact the school. Thank You.


Halloween Dress Up Day For Brรบ Columbanus
Thursday 25th October was a No Uniform Day in school and the children had great fun dressing up in their costumes.  They also raised €194.70 towards Brรบ Columbanus and this is very much appreciated. Thanking all for their donations.

Parent / Teacher Meetings
We are having parent/teacher meetings on next Tuesday 13th Nov. from 2.45 pm and Wednesday 14th Nov. from 3.05 p.m.  All pupils will go home at 2.30 pm on Tuesday and at  2.50 pm on Wednesday. 
The bus will be running at 2.30pm on Tuesday and at normal time (2.50pm) on Wednesday.  We would appreciate if you could arrange to collect your child / children at these times.   Appointments have been sent to parents.
Parent – teacher meetings for Junior Infants will take place in January 2019.

Public Speaking Competition
Well done to our Public Speaking team who competed in the IRD Duhallow Public Speaking Competition on  Tuesday 6th November in the James O’Keeffe Institute in Newmarket. It introduced them to public speaking, helped them gain confidence and developed their research skills.  They were a credit to our school.   The team are Katie Rea, Amy Donnelly, Olivia Cronin Liam O’Keeffe, Lauren Horan and Ciara Hughes. 
Book Fair
We thank everybody who supported our Book Fair.  It has been a tremendous success. We thank Ms. O’Connell for organising the Book Fair and the members of the Parents Committee who came in and helped out.   The total takings were €2520.00  60% of the value of the books sold at the book fair, which comes to €1512.00, has been redeemed in the form of free books for use in the school.
Drama Classes
Drama Classes began in the school on Tuesday last 6th Nov.  All classes are involved.  Margaret O’Sullivan is our Drama Teacher.  We know that all will have a very enjoyable experience.  These classes are being funded by the Parents Committee.
Irish Dancing Classes.
We say thanks to Triona Mangan, Irish Dancing Teacher who has given Junior to 2nd Class lessons in Irish Dancing.  These classes were also funded by the Parents Committee.

Hurling
Patrice Diggins – Kerry Games Development Officer will be coming to the school weekly until Christmas promoting some hurling skills and participation with the pupils. 

Visit to St. Joseph’s Day Care Centre
Mr. Dineen’s Sixth Class pupils visited St. Joseph’s Day Care Centre on Wed. 24th October  for Halloween where they sang danced and played tunes for the elderly.  It was both entertaining and very enjoyable for both the pupils and the elderly.
