PHYSICAL EDUCATION

All classes are taught 5 different PE strands each year: Athletics, Games, Gymnastics, Dance, Aquatics*(Water Safety) and Outdoor and Adventure Activities. This year we focused on Outdoor and Adventure as the strand to strengthen as a staff, at all class levels. Active Flag is discussed at every staff meeting. Teachers use the PE curriculum, the PSSI lesson plans and the Move Well, Move Often resources to support the delivery of the P.E. curriculum. These resources are available in the P.E. resources section in the staffroom. A copy of each resource was also placed on our school drive for easy access to all staff when planning P.E. lessons. All students receive P.E. homework once a week. Teachers observe and assist visiting coaches and team teaching leads to the sharing of expertise.

Land Paws

Our school teaches the Land Paws water safety programme each year to all class levels. This is taught in conjunction to swimming lessons in Term 3 of the school year.

PE EQUIPMENT AUDIT

Our school carried out a PE equipment audit at the beginning of the school year. We disposed of any broken equipment. The equipment is stored in a central location and labelled clearly. Equipment monitors check the store room and equipment on a regular basis, The Parent's Committee kindly supplied some new equipment for our P.E. store this year also. Many thanks to Mr. Dineen and the Sixth class students for their hard work and to the Parent's Committee for supplying new equipment.

The four Move Well, Move Often fundamental movement skills we have decided to further develop this year are:

*Walking

*Running

* Landing

* Hopping
