Congratulations and well done to Doireann (3rd Class) for growing, cutting and donating her ponytail to the Rapunzel Foundation.
Hair is raised through the Rapunzel Foundation’s Ponytail campaign, where people commit to growing their hair 14 inches or longer with the view to their hair being sent to help make much needed wigs to improve the lives of those living with the hair loss.
Well done Doireann
Congratulations and well done to Charlie (2nd Class), Johnny (4th class) and Clodagh (6th Class) who won in their categories in the Credit Union Art Competition
There was great excitement today in HFNS. All the boys and girls were treated to hot chocolates while they watched the
'Little Red Riding Hood' panto from the Helix Panto Group.
Here is a little video of the day.
A huge THANK YOU to the parents committee for funding the treats and to the Amber Flag committee for preparing the delicious hot chocolates.
Amber Flag
We are excited to announce that we are embarking on a new adventure; we are taking on the challenge of obtaining an Amber Flag! The Amber Flag is an initiative run by Pieta House, which recognises inclusive environments that supports mental wellbeing. Promoting positive mental health and wellbeing in H.F.N.S. involves the whole school community working together to create a safe, positive and healthy attitude towards our physical and mental health and overall wellbeing. Throughout the year, the Amber Flag Committee – comprised of pupils from Senior Infants to 6th Class, will coordinate events starting with ‘Kindness Day’ which was celebrated on November 17th 2021. The children completed many random acts of kindness. The Amber Flag Committee are as follows: Senior Infants: Katie Fleming & Micheal O’ Riordan, First Class: Kayleigh White & Paudie O’ Donighue, Second Class: Cathal O’ Sullivan & Abbey Kissane, Third Class: Cliodhna O’ Connell & Liam Lawlor, Fourth Class: Ethan Abu & CaoimheO’ Sullivan, Fifth Class: Ava Rea & Anthony Cahill and Sixth Class: Aoibhinn O’ Connell & Michael O’ Riordan.
Well done to all the pupils who made a great effort to spread kindness and continue to do so every day. Lots of classes completed lovely art work based on the theme of ‘kindness’. Second Class decorated the corridor with these:
The Amber Flag Committee members were keen to promote the Food Appeal for the Local St. Vincent de Paul. Míle Buíochas to all who have donated food and non perishable items again this year. Our school community is very generous as usual. The local SVP organisation does great work in our community and gives hampers to families who are in need over the Christmas period.

Dear
Parent/Guardian,
We
have been informed by the Department of Education that masks must be worn by
children from 3rd to 6th classes. Please see the relevant information from the
Department of Education on the school blog
Please
ensure that your child has 3 clean face masks daily. These can either be cloth
masks or disposable masks. As children
will be eating and taking masks off while playing on the yard it’s more
hygienic to have 3 masks. Cloth face
masks should be washed daily. Please
bring 2 ziplock bags to store the masks and keep them clean and put the used
ones in the second bag.
Teachers
have discussed safe mask wearing and the importance of not touching faces with
the children.
We
are on hand to offer every support necessary.
Please do not hesitate to contact us if there are any issues and thank
you as always for your continued cooperation.
