Dear Parents,

Our Christmas concert will take place on Thurs.
Dec. 13th and Fri. Dec. 14th. The
concert will commence at 11am on both days and will run for 1 hour and 10
minutes approx. We recommend
that parents of Jun. Infants, Sen. Infants, First, and Second Classes come to
the concert on Thursday and parents of Third, Fourth, Fifth and Sixth classes
come to the concert on Friday. If
this arrangement inconveniences you in any way, please feel free to come on the
day of your choice. It is the same show
on both days so you are welcome on whichever day suits you.

ST. ANDREWS
SCHOOL IN THE GAMBIA, WEST AFRICA
Our school was awarded its 6th
Green Flag earlier this year for its outstanding work on the Global
Citizenship, Litter & Waste. The
pupils had a lovely visit from Mr. Ciarán Black in October 2017 who is working
in a school in The Gambia, West Africa and described conditions of children in
schools there. On that occasion, we gave him €1,000 proceeds from a cake sale
and a no uniform day. The following is
an extract from correspondence received from Mr. Black after we received our
Green Flag ... “because of your financial
support to St. Andrews the following projects were completed in the past few
months:
-
The plastering and painting
of the Nursery Block has now been completed.
-
All the classrooms in the Nursery School have now got the necessary
amount of school furniture i.e. tables, chairs, etc.
-
Copy books and textbooks were purchased for the pupils in the
Nursery School
-
Garden Materials and seeds were purchased including rakes, spades,
buckets, and hammers. Onions, tomatoes,
lettuce, cabbage, okra, cucumber and peppers were planted and are now producing
much needed vegetables.
-
A photocopier and office equipment were also bought for the school.
The pupils in St. Andrews are very grateful for all
your help. It is Globalization being put
into practice in its real meaning – schools in different continents in the
world being able to help and support other schools in need of help.”
Our former principal, Mr Diarmuid McCarthy will
be taking the opportunity to see for himself where the generous contributions
have been spent and to convey our good wishes to Mr. Black when he visits St.
Andrews school in the Gambia in the new year.
To coincide with this visit and send some additional funding to
continue the good work, there will be a no uniform day on Wednesday and the
pupils are welcome to make a donation. There will also be a donation bucket in
the hall on Thursday and Friday during the Christmas play for any contributions
you wish to send. We are aware
that the festive season brings much expense but the pupils of St. Andrews would
benefit greatly from any donations received. Thank you.
