Playground Leaders
Fifth Class Pupils are our new playground leaders. Ms O Donoghue and Ms Touhy have trained the students. We received some really nice leader bibs from the Active Flag Organisation and also some whistles. This initiative had been a great success.

Do your talking as your walking!
At Holy Family National School we encourage students to do your talking as your walking to keep active during break times. The Active Committee members designed posters to put up around the school to remind us to keep moving!

Rainy Day Active Breaks

On rainy days where children cannot go outside to play we have become a lot more active. Our sixth class students spent time with Ms O Donoghue learning new skills and games to help the other classes in the school to participate in Active Breaks. We started this when we applied for our first Active Flag and it has continued since. We have a timetable so that each team in sixth class know which classroom they are going to. Each group take a booklet of ideas with them and choose activities suitable to the group.

Wow

We like to Walk on Wednesdays in Holy Family National School.

Tracksuit Thursdays Running
We really enjoyed our running initiative in HFNS this year. Every Thursday for six weeks each class worked on increasing the distance they could run for and also the time Each class teacher helped the children to create their own personal goals. We measured the Astroturf and also the GP Room (for wet days) and worked towards increasing our fitness levels. Some classes did this more than one day a week and also some have decided to keep it going in Term 3.

The Active Schools Committee measured the Astroturf and GP Room.

Movement Breaks
The Active School Committee encourage all children and teachers to participate in different movement breaks throughout the day.
